A Cambridge mother whose nine year old son died from a brain tumour is calling for more funding for research as part of an international awareness week. Tom Whiteley from Cambridge died five years ago – just seven months after being diagnosed with a tumour. His mother Deborah founded the charity Tom’s Trust, which raises money for clinical psychologists in Cambridgeshire to help children with brain tumours. But despite improvements in the county, national funding of research into brain tumours is at a record low- just over one per cent of the total national spend on cancer. Deborah says more funding for research could save lives.
