Professor Martin Roland – British Doctors

The Health Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, has pledged to make Britain self-sufficient by training more doctors, to avoid the NHS having to rely on foreign staff. He said the number of medical school places will increase by a quarter from 2018 – and that if junior doctors don’t complete 4 years of work for the NHS, they may have to repay part of the cost of their training of £220,000.
We spoke to Professor Martin Roland, from the Institute of Public Health at Cambridge University.
