Steven Bowns – Cambridgeshire Regiment History

A century ago, on the 14th October, young soldiers from the Cambridgeshire Regiment achieved one of the greatest acts of wartime heroism. Their desperate push to capture a German-held fortress, on a hill overlooking the French town of Thiepval lead to heavy losses. But using a gutsy manoeuvre called the ‘creeping barrage’, they eventually achieved success. We spoke to historian and author Steven Bowns who’s made it the subject of his new book.
